Hi, Suzanne Reilley, business coach for personal trainers here in Los Angeles, CA. A lot of people have been asking me about transitions lately and I’d like to say a little about that. Some people are raising their prices. How do they do they keep the integrity of their current structure and then uplevel to their new pricing structure? Some people are going from a full time job to full time personal training. How do you bridge that gap?
One of the big things I notice is that in transitions, people seem to be under a lot of pressure; a TON of pressure and stress. Think about the transition logically. What resources do you need to make it happen? What about this is stressing me out most?
The biggest factors are usually:
- What will my clients think of me
- Money
- Time
The specifics will be different for each person and each situation. Ask yourself, “What is the one thing I can do that will take 70% of this stress off my back?” Then be creative about how you might do that. For example, you may want to:
- Get a loan from a family member
- Get a loan from your bank
- Get a part time job (waiting tables, bartending, Craigs List)
An interesting thing happens. Think back to the cool kids in high school. Stereotypically, they’re confident, don’t have a care in the world, they’re chill and they have this sense about them. Who are you? What do you have to contribute? That’s a real powerful place to be!
So if you can take some of that stress off, feel that lightness, and feel that confidence, it’ll make a huge difference in every single conversation you have along the way. It’ll tend to lubricate that transition a bit. See what you can take off your plate to make it just a little bit lighter and I bet it’ll make a big difference in all your interactions.
We offer individualized business coaching services here. If you’d like me to help you look at your exact transition and what exact pieces you have going on there, I can likely help you move through that in a fourth of the time, or an eighth of the time that you may take to do it yourself, or that you may take talking with friends, family, etc. If you’d like that kind of help, give me a call at 310-745-3021. Take care.
