5 simple rules that can change the way you look at your business model
Are you feeling trapped by your business? Are you spending more than you are bringing in? Are you struggling everyday to fill your schedule with clients? Do you know where and how to network to find those clients? Are you feeling trapped by the demands of client schedules? I did! And I didn’t like it!
Exactly one year ago, I was struggling in my business. I lived in that place where it was all about filling my dance card with clients. I lived at the mercy of my clientele, I let them lead my schedule. I let my business dictate my life because of I was afraid I would lose my income. I was afraid I would be in constant starve mode!
A friend told me something that changed the way I was looking at my business “Maryse, if you are spending more than you are bringing in, your business is a hobby!”.. Those words hit me hard! She was right! I took a good look at what I was doing and decided there and then that this model is over!!!
I made some rules for myself, based on what I want my business to be, on who I wanted to work with and how I wanted to work! Here’s how I did that, and how you can do it too!
- I let go of the belief that I had to cater to my client’s every schedule whim
- I instilled some systems in my business that limited access to my facilities, allowing me some “life-time”
- I raised my prices (scary for sure, but not out of price point in the industry)
- I changed the way I invoiced my clients, insuring a steady income
- I began to play more in the arenas where I felt the most comfortable, where I laughed out loud and where it was easy to just be and do what I do best.
When I changed all of what I didn’t like about my business model, when I began to really enjoy my business, I also began to enjoy being in my business. And that meant, I could sincerely enjoy my client. The results are astounding! In just 12 months, my business turned completely around! It’s not only profitable, it allows me to live the life I’ve always wanted for myself. It was all about doing what I love to do in the way I WANT to do it! The rest just followed!
3 years struggling in the school of “hard-knocks”, doing what everyone else was doing, fighting for that next client only to learn that at the end of the day : if you love how you work, success will come!
